Harry’s Reported List of Demands
Adding to the tension are Harry’s alleged demands, outlined by Shuter in his latest Substack.
The first is for full, King-funded security for himself, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four. This comes after Harry’s failed legal attempt to regain taxpayer-funded police protection in the UK.
His second demand is for Buckingham Palace to assume responsibility for press and paparazzi management. “Harry doesn’t want another trip where he feels unprotected and exposed,” one aide said. “He wants iron-clad guarantees — not vague promises. Security and privacy are non-negotiable.”
Most controversial of all is his request that Meghan be treated as Her Royal Highness, with formal bows and curtsies, despite stepping down as a working royal in 2020.
Peace Talks at Risk of Collapse
Representatives from both sides were seen holding “peace talks” in London in July, fueling hopes of progress. However, courtiers now warn that the latest breakdown could derail reconciliation altogether. “If this collapses, the door may slam shut for good,” one said.
Harry is traveling alone, with Meghan and their children remaining in California, and it is unclear how long he plans to stay in Britain.
The Duke has not seen his father since January last year. Speaking to the BBC in May, Harry said he still hoped for peace with his family: “There’s no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious,” he reflected, adding that he does not know “how much longer” his father has left.
